The paisley motif, known as buta/boteh, has long been woven into the cultural fabric of Kashmir. With its curved, droplet-like form, the design merges elements of a floral spray and a cypress tree, symbols of life and eternity rooted in Persian influence. In Kashmir, this motif took on new life through the art of pashmina weaving, becoming a staple of intricate shawls and cultural heirlooms, passed down through generations and worn during life’s most meaningful moments.
